-=Reborn JEDI=- Forums _ The Jedi Runway _ Any Skinning, Modelling And Mapping News?

Posted by: InfiniteWarrior Nov 8 2019, 01:51 PM

What a strange trip it's been...down memory lane. Here I am, reviewing 15 year old conversations about skinning and going, confused.gif ...and I produced four skins myself at the time!

If I had to make a skin for JKII today, I'd have to learn how to do it all over again.

It got me wondering, though -- if anyone is still in touch with OneWingedAngel, TheBeast, et al. -- if any RJ are still modding, mapping or, perhaps, even developing games professionally today.

I'm very much into the Fallout and Skyrim modding communities, though I haven't produced any mods (aside from an unpublished companion mod for Skyrim) for those games myself, as much as I'd like to. There are already so many exceptionally high-quality mods available for those games, it would probably be a pointless endeavor to learn the ins and outs of creating mods for them.

Not many developers/publishers even support modding of their games anymore, unless making garish attempts to include them in their microtransaction fiascos. wacko.gif I actually fear for the future of the modding community in general at this point. But...let's not get into that. Too depressing.

Any news on this front?

BTB: The absolute best ever companion mod for Skyrim (imho) is https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1461.

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nVBNlDG6_0& for a little insight on what makes for an awesome companion mod.

Hey Infinite - I'm actually going down memory lane myself tonight... and to answer your question, nope... I haven't pursued a career in games - I'm just an old boring IT guy now tongue.gif

I'm having trouble tracking down my old files - but I must have them somewhere. I was a firm believer in backups back then and I still am. So they are still sitting somewhere, but the trouble is finding them tongue.gif

EDIT: I see they are still in the download section right here... but I've been looking at all the old site (pcgamemod / jk2files / etc.) and they are all down... oh, well... I would have gotten a kick of reading old comments on those skins and models smile.gif

Some are still up, if you can believe it. May have changed names/URLs/pathing schemes many times over the years, but still up. If I can track some down in my over-flowing bookmarks folder, I may post a list so all ye modders can catch up with what's happening with your creations now.

None of the links you have, but some files still reside at https://www.gamefront.com/.

Yeah - it's never boring... just ... surprising I guess depending where you're working and with who tongue.gif

And... I was hobbying this morning and it kind of hit me.
I told you I don't skin or mod anymore... well I've picked up a hobby that's actually pretty similar to that, but it's more "analog" smile.gif I paint miniatures now - just for the sake of painting.

Not sculpting? I seem to remember your being more into modeling. wink.gif

No matter. Any creative outlet is better than none.

hehe that's true, I think I had an easier time dealing with 3ds Max than Photoshop back in the days ... but I was always starting from something when I was modeling. My 2 bigger project were started from an existing model that I just added things to.

And, it way harder to judge symertry and placement when you don't have the help of a digital tool smile.gif That's why I now I stick to painting tongue.gif

Hehe. i know the feeling. When you don't have access to the latest and greatest, you kind of make do with what you have.

But, that's okay. "The only way out is through." Yeah?
