Let's hope so. There is a new MMORPG that was officially announced a few weeks back called Star Wars: The Old Republic. Hopefully it will turn out better than Galaxies. Although it won't be out for atleast a couple of more years I am anxious to see the outcome. If you all are still frequenting the boards in that time I am really hoping we might be able to reunite in game and start up again.
It will be a different type of game sure. But as much as we socialize an MMO seems to be what we are geared for. A star wars one no less can only ensure it!!! So here's hoping to a game to finally push us all out of the shadows and back into the club again! http://www.swtor.com/
Looks sort of promising.... but you know my question.... will it be available for me?
Not a lot has been said. Bioware is doing it though. They made the Knights of the Old Republic games which won game of the year, as well as Mass Effect which also one several awards. Both great RPG's so I have no doubt this one will be excellent. I'll be keeping a close look on the game while it is being produced so I will let you know if I here anything.
<-- signed up and waiting ...
They have added the ability to create guilds before the game launches. I created one for me and a friend to get started with at launch, I picked sith empire since I want to try out the bounty hunter class first. Setup was easy if anyone planning on getting the game wants to create an RJ guild ahead of time. I'm guessing we'll pick the republic?? Here's the link to mine, no members but me so far.

We're at least setup and ready. If we need to massage the environment, etc. to be more attractive, I'm open to options.

Awwww. No comments on "what if Bioware and LucasArts (and Star Trek) had an over-arching, narrative baby?"
Sorry. But -- for some reason -- I'm reminded of Adult Swim's http://video.adultswim.com/robot-chicken/the-emperors-phone-call.html.
Good thing the "over-arching" storyline is just a backdrop....
testing
BTW: Infi - strikethrough is buit-in with the:
when is this all happening?!
Really - I wish there was something official. Everything so far has been pre-game beta testing/building, and now Guild formation.
No definite time frames that I've seen.
JB
FYI - I have http://www.swtor.com/preorder/?sourceid=eag3012 of SWTOR. HAVE YOU?!?!

Think I'll wait for the reviews. Got burned on Force Unleashed. http://kotaku.com/5719661/robot-chicken-makes-the-force-unleashed-ii-seem-playable says Robot Chicken's commercial makes TFU seem almost playable. I beg to differ.
May be different with Bioware aboard. One never knows....
I ended up enjoying FU once I got far enough into it ... And ignored all the pre-fab saber tricks. FU2 was definitely better. The one I didn't like AT ALL was Galaxies. Holy boring, Batman.
I think Hammy is still in board to give it a go. The pre-registered folks are supposed to get in prior to the public release. Hopefully, we'll know enough by then to give somewhat of a report that's halfway indicative of anything useful.

Yeah I pre-ordered the collectors edition. Unfortunately I didn't get the code until about two or three weeks later. So I doubt I'll get much if any early playing time in. I'll keep you guys (and gal) posted if I do get my hands on it early.
I think it will be released sometime at the end of November. Nothing official but I'm pretty sure they haven't set an official date and probably won't until a month or so before release. Reason being that MMO's such as WoW tend to release patches with new content when new MMOs launch to keep their players from straying away.
I've played WoW off and on for about 5 years. I always end up hitting the level cap then getting left in the dust by guilds raiding and I can't get into any of the end game content. It was fun, but I imagine I'll go into this game full force and play pretty often. I need something to keep me saving money at home while I chip away at the final core courses of my degree.
Plus I hear the game has more of a solo feel with the in depth story and there will be plenty of other things to do than just raid when I get to the level cap.
Well, when/if you decide to start playing again, let me know and if you're not in a guild with your character, you can have it moved to the realm I'm in and I'll send you a guild invite. BTW, I'm playing with an alliance character.
The guild I created is with the sith so I can make an alt and join you on your server Just keep me updated when you find out what server your on.

Whoops, for some reason I associated alliance with the rebel alliance and thought you were talking about your future TOR guild =P. I probably won't get back into WoW with this around the corner. I still have all my characters though so if I ever do for any reason I'll hit ya up!
I kind of figured that's what happened. I do stuff like that myself sometimes, I think it's a part of us getting old or something. lol After all, some might say I'm ancient this weekend turning 43.
Just confirmation that I'm in on (more of) the BETA testing! WhooHoo!
Downloading game now.
JB
Oh.......
I'm in on Beta as well, what characters have you made?? I haven't really had enough time to sit down and play for the past couple of weeks. I think I'm on the revan server, got a republic guy sitting around level 20
so...? What's the report?
So far I find it enjoyable. It really doesn't separate it self from other MMORPG's I've played. But I really didn't expect it to. It's definitely fun, and nice to be in the Star Wars universe again. They came out with a new build for the beta so my characters were wiped. I've started another.
My main complaint is so far most of the worlds you visit are very linear. I might not have gotten far enough in the game to reach a more open area. I think you get your first speeder mount around level 22 which I haven't reached so hopefully when I get that the higher level areas will have bigger areas to explore.
They did add a nice feature for those who prefer to explore rather than pvp, quest, or run dungeons all the time. In very hard to reach areas in the game there are holocrons hidden. I've managed to find a handful while I quest. Some are in plain sight but usually it takes a little more thinking to figure out how to reach them. They give you a permanent slight boost to a specific stat (strength, health, etc.) depending on the holocron you find, but not a ridiculous amount that would make you overpowered compared to other players.
The game is out!!!
I messed my pre-order up so I'll probably pick it up after the holidays. The new year looks to be a busy one for me so no telling how much time I'll actually be able to dedicate to the game. Anyone else picking it up??
Hammy - I have the game. It just arrived in "hard copy" at my door this week. I played a few hours here and there of the beta (downloaded), but haven't yet jumped in fresh with the retail copy.
I am excited too, though. I have a feeling it will call to me - regularly. So I'm careful on timing.
Anyone else interested in once again taking the Jedi plunge?
JB
Aaaaand - if anyone gets the bug: I'm playing on Hanhaar server (or some similar spelling) on the Jedi Consular path.
So far - more fun than I was expecting (albeit - nothing like JO/JA). Lots of story to uncover.
JB
So far - Level 9 Consular. Just got my LIGHTSABER and JEDI status. (fyi - this would be more fun in a group, but plays well solo).
JB
I've got a couple of guys started up on sith. I'll find time to hop into your server, thinking about making a trooper. I'll let you know as I get the ball rolling. Fun game!
I'm having trouble picturing a hamster as a sith. Hamsters are usually adorable little furballs.
this is a reason to get boot camp in itself... hmm........
