While I was unemployeed, I took some time to shed a few pounds... I did great and lost 42 pounds. The downside is that through genetics and weightloss, my triglycerides went through the roof...
A "normal" triglyceride level is considered to be 40-180 mg/dL. While my cholesterol levels are great, my triglyceride level is 450 mg/dL. Shortly after losing the weight, I started having chest pain and back pain... as soon as I felt the pain I went and got the ole' ticker checked and everything was good... Next my doctor ordered a lower CT and we discovered that I have gall stones and an inflamed gall bladder... Moral of the story: Treat your body right. Everything in moderation. Over the last (almost) 30 years, I beat my body to hell... I lived well, but played hard... things are starting to catch up with me. So, I'll probably have my gall bladder removed. You young folk take my advice... treat your body right... you're only 18-21 for about 10 years and then time catches up with you. Don't do what I did... well do some of it, but just be careful. On the bright side, I will have a few days off work and should be able to get some quaility game time in. Here's what I did from the list below that I should not have done: being overweight losing weight rapidly taking in too much food fasting for more than eight hours For your medical reading pleasure: If you have belly pain or nausea, particularly after eating fatty foods, you may have gall stones that increase your chances of suffering gall bladder (1) and pancreatic cancer (2). Having your gall bladder removed increases your chances of suffering colon cancer (3,4). So, the best way to treat gall stones is to prevent them. The main nutritional risk factors for gall stones are being overweight and losing weight rapidly. Also high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, taking in too much food, fasting for more than eight hours, very low calorie diets of less than 700 Kcal/day, staying on intravenous feeding for more than two weeks (5) and chronic constipation (6). Don't start a diet to lose weight unless you feel that you can stay on the diet forever. Your liver removes breakdown products of metabolism from your blood-stream and converts them to bile which is stored in your gall bladder. Bile contains cholesterol which can form gall stones, and bile acids which keep the cholesterol soluble so it does not form stones. Bile acids are formed from the food that you eat. When you restrict food, your liver reduces its production of bile acids, causing cholesterol to form stones (7). To lose weight and not form gall stones, eat a high fiber, low-fat diet based on whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables. WHEN TO HAVE GALL BLADDER REMOVED? If you have belly pain or nausea after you eat, particularly after eating fatty foods, you may have a diseased gall bladder. Doctors are less eager than previously to remove gall bladders because they can treat most cases with aspirin and low-fat diets. Your liver removes breakdown products of metabolism from your bloodstream and concentrates them into a fluid called bile/ which is stored in a muscular balloon called the gall bladder. When you eat, the gall bladder contracts and squeezes bile from the gall bladder/ along a tube leading into the intestines. Bile enters the intestines to help break down food into basic building blocks so it can be absorbed into your bloodstream. Gall stones prevent bile from going from the gall bladder into the intestines. You need to have your gall bladder removed if you have frequent or severe pain or suspected cancer. Removing your gall bladder may increase your chances of getting colon cancer (1,2), but having gall stones also increases your chances of suffering gall bladder cancer (3). Normally, bile enters your intestines only when you eat, but after you have your gall bladder removed, bile drips into your intestines 24 hours a day. Bile causes cancer, so the increased exposure of your colon to bile may increase your chances of getting colon cancer (1,2). Many people with gall stones do not need surgery. One adult aspirin a day can help the gall bladder to clear bile and prevent pain (4). A low-fat diet will also help to decrease your chances of forming gall stones. -------------------- ============================================= • E .· ` ' / ·. F Your tears fuel me. OH god, Deacon, that just stinks. I am so sorry to hear it. Let me know if you want to give me a beatdown, if it will help you feel better, and I will be there.

Thanks man... How's your wife doing? They said I should be down for 3 days and then I could go back to work... I'm hoping that the case.
We just found out that it will be 6-8 weeks of recovery w/o heavy lifting and our due date has moved from 2/24 to 2/5... I need to get thing rolling. -D -------------------- ============================================= • E .· ` ' / ·. F Your tears fuel me. Yellow is golden, but Red is quicker! |

She's doing good. They gave her ton's of meds so she's out . Thank God. I would say you've got nothing to worry about. It's surgery, so yeah it's gonna be painful, but they are pretty small. Just plan to take a good week off work, and really watch the lifting. My wife's pain tolerance is about nil, so she sounds like a dying dog . LOL But you'll be fine.

Yep... Just when we finally get our heads together, our backsides fall apart.
Fear not, Deac; you're still young. A pup, really. The surgery will be a breeze and I join everyone here in wishing you a painless and very, very s-p-e-e-d-y recovery. Best wishes! |
