Though this image is small, you can still see how bad it is. This happened on I-95 just south of Baltimore. The road, which I use to get home, will be closed for the evening... man! Like I wasn't having a bad enough day... Though I guess it could be wrose sad.gif

The thing that really sucks is that the road surface was reported as "being on fire". Even if they do clean the scene up, they will need to re-pave the road surface before it is driveable. Keep in mind that this is a major interstate highway, four lanes/two shoulders wide. My commute is going to be horrible for the next week or so. I suppose it could be worse, but bah bah and triple bah. mad.gif

Here is the news article from a local TV station:

ELKRIDGE, Md. -- A fiery crash closed a major corridor between Baltimore and Washington Tuesday afternoon after a large truck went out of control on a ramp and FELL onto the interstate below. State officials said four people were killed in the accident and five vehicles were involved.

Gov. Bob Ehrlich said there are conflicting reports about what type of vehicle flew off the bridge and down onto I-95. The collision below caused an explosion after impact with the roadway and traffic that was traveling on I-95.

Pictures from SkyTeam 11 (above) showed an area along the Interstate 95 North charred and the shells of vehicles along the roadway. A foam truck from Baltimore-Washington International Airport was called to the scene to help put down the fire.

Both directions of I-95 were closed for nearly four hours. Northbound traffic is still being diverted off the interstate at Route 100. Southbound lanes reopened shortly after 7 p.m. (I just got home at 8:30 and they were still closed) The ramp for Interstate 895 goes over the accident scene and that is also shut down.

Ehrlich said they are unsure about the total number killed in the accident. He said the area is being treated as a crime scene, but they do not suspect terrorism was involved.

Acting State Police Superintendent Col. Thomas Hutchins would not speculate about when they would be able to open the northbound lanes.

Poor Deacon! sad.gif

I hope things start to clear up as soon as possible. For your sake, I really hope there might be another route that can bring you to work in a timely fashion.

Kudos to the Maryland State Highway Administration! They managed to open the road as of 3:30 this morning. I saw them starting the lay new road surface on my way into work. Amazing!

The sad thing about the crash is that the four people who have died (or are confirmed dead) can't be identified as of yet. All the soft metal from the cars and trucks was burned. Officials are hoping to get the VIN from the steel frames, if possible, to identify the people.

Here is the full story as if this morning:
