-=Reborn JEDI=- Forums _ Close Q & A _ The New Map

I thought you might want to see a picture of what I work with. Pretty nutso, once a map gets complicated. blink.gif

http://rjclan.com/images/newpic.jpg

I will post some screenshots soon, but I REALLY NEED A NAME FOR THIS MAP. I just changed the title to "Amalgamation," but somehow that does not come trippingly off the tongue, so to speak.

Keep an eye out for a revised version soon. I will post when it is on the server, and you will have to update. Also, any further suggestions you have for it would be appreciated.

Make it so when I pick up the Bacta Tank, I don't a random bag full of goodies biggrin.gif

Other than that, I'd say it's pretty nice the way it is. I can get through those halls faster than your little "lifts" go, so I would leave those as is. There's more than enough room for just about every game type, so I can't see any reason why it can't support everything (not sure if it already does). A shame you can't get those explosions to fire more than once, though. Any way you can script it so they "respawn" ?

PS: I should send you a screenie of ctf_nipseb, now there's a crazy map, everything is all over the place happy.gif

Thanks...

As for the new map, I am shooting to have a version available for beta-testing tomorrow night (Thurs.) on the server. I will post to the shoutbox when it is live.

Most of the "improvements" are "under the hood" at this point, as well as subtle little adjustments that I have learned are needed through the gameplay (little places to hide, one hall that always SHOULD have been there, but somehow never was, etc.) The outside area has a couple little changes, as well as trying to boost FPS wherever possible-- though given the size of many of the spaces, it is dang hard. Oh, and there are a couple little "gee-whiz" things I have added. wink.gif

I MUST be getting near the entity limit on the map though, so I will have to be careful.

Anyway, I will post when it is ready for a test. Anyone else who wants to chime in-- Do so now!

P.s. Post those screenshots, Ky!

Immediate impressions were along the lines of ice, castles (but definitely not Ice Castles - yuck), lava (lamps) and "bejeweled"... if that helps. :\ ('Fraid I haven't had the opportunity to take it further.)

euh... "Revenge of Jimi Hendrix"? (No. Scratch that. Thinkin'....)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/Kyzene/ctf_nipsebcrazy.jpg. And it's not that bad, if you're making selsections in that view though, it must take you like a bazillion years to get to what you want rolleyes.gif

It's easier for my to make selections via the 3-D window, but thats just me wink.gif

Posted by: Ruggiero Dec 22 2005, 02:19 PM

of COURSE I make selections through the 3d window, punk.

Hard to see nibesp's appearance... post a screenie of the map as it looks. wink.gif

Re: amalgamation... Isn't is more of a conglomeration? Congeries.... (A little play on words and and you'll have conjury - magical, mystical, enchanting....

P.S. Would be very cool if Purple Haze started playing when you turn on the floor. wink.gif

Wow.... I just saw something on Ky's screenie... and I know I'm going to be way off topic... but I had to ask.

The question is..... which do you care more about? smile.gif

Actually, just one of those "reformatting/backup" things that you PC people do on a weekly basis.... this is the first time in 5 years for me.

Rugg

Posted by: Kyzene Jan 4 2006, 06:36 PM

Last time I formatted was when I installed jk2 for the first time? wink.gif

Posted by: Ruggiero Jan 4 2006, 07:31 PM

Amalgamation RC6 is on the server now... get it while it's hot!

(I HOPE this is the last one!)

Only Lizards do such silly things ...

I think the last time I reformatted/rebuilt (my main PC) may have been 3 years ago. If you're a good PC user, Windows will be as stable as any other OS.

Side-bar:
I have a feeling that those drawn to purchasing (higher-priced) Macs are also more likely to be the type to be "safer-surfers" of the web, etc. Whereas all types of yahoos buy and use the $399 <insert>name-of-overly-large-pc-company-here</insert> ... carlessly navigating to every casino site on the planet while logged into a fully-privileged administrator account.

It's not the gun's fault Billy-Bob killed Punkin.

Sorry to hear you're having to rebuild, I know it's a pain. Let us know when you're back up and at 'em.

JB

Posted by: Ruggiero Jan 5 2006, 12:07 PM

Precisely my point... one can even be a BAD mac user, using a fully priv'ed admin account and surfing to all the rodian casinos, and never have to do this. smile.gif Leave it to me to stuff a 6 year old machine with 3 hard drives, 2 graphics cards, a souped-up dual processor, and a partridge in a pear tree.

I am back and at' em. Rebuilding was easy, just time consuming. The new (hopefully final) map is up on the server. So far, I have noted only a couple minor bugs, which can still fall under the category of "feature," so we are getting close to finished....

It may not be the gun's fault but someone gave that gun to billybob.

Rugg

Posted by: JayBaen Jan 5 2006, 12:30 PM

*someone* yes ... the gun didn't walk itself there, but that's a discussion for an entirely different thread ...

Glad to hear that you are up and running.

JB

(and you know, if as many people owned Macs as own PCs -- I bet we'd see a different trend of statistical performance).

Posted by: Ruggiero Jan 5 2006, 03:44 PM

you just can't leave it alone....

"We must settle this using our skills with the lightsaber."

(What is the line, Tyr? )

Posted by: SubtleStar Jan 10 2006, 02:54 AM

So what you're really saying is that...Your mac needs 2 graphics cards, and 'souped-up' dual processors to produce a whopping 23 FPS on your map... Reference photo:

I think that's fantastic! Especially since my inferior, unstable, Windows based PC...with ONE processor, and ONE graphics card..recreating the same photo (with a more attractive character, of course) can only produce this for a max FPS...

Posted by: Ruggiero Jan 10 2006, 12:29 PM

tell me about it. :/

though I did switch to maximum res/detail for that shot, it does kill my fps when I do so. I usually am around 40 on that room, which stinks. But hey... my comp IS 6 yrs. old.
