I'm still glad that I am not interested in a digital download of RDR2, as I've heard they've had tons of issues with online play, since its launch. Maybe at some point in the near future, they'll have those issues fixed and physical copies of the install. lol

Oops.

Well, I wasn't going to play the online component anyway, so it's all good, but for the lack of a physical copy thing.

It's pretty short sighted of them, to not have a physical disc to install the game on the pc, when they have physical discs for the ps4 and xbox 1 versions of the game.

With streaming services being all the rage today, I'm not too surprised. If you can stream games, surely you can download a personal copy of one, right? dry.gif

Most of the offerings in the gaming industry have gone the way of being little more than (if not completely) interactive, animated movies anyway. Most studios already have ditched what is, imho, a video game's most compelling feature: player agency. Makes me wonder, at times, if we're not seeing the beginning of the end of the video game as an art form unto itself.

It's not that I can't, but this particular one is super huge at 150 GB. It will take most of a week to download, with my dsl being up to 4 mbps. I kept having issue with doing GTA 5. That one kept stopping with an error code, and having to delete a partial file, just to continue. Rockstar tech support wanted to blame my internet speed, instead of looking at how crappy they packed the files.

Other large games, 65+ gb, I've had no issue getting downloaded, or large updates to those games. Just the huge very large ones, from Rockstar. Even very large updates to GTA 5, have given me issues.

Try it without DSL, dude. FO4 took the better of a month. : )

It's not a question of can and can't (or, even, haves and have nots, maybe), but of why such oversights exist in the first place.

Witcher 3 was better, of course. I had a physical copy of that one. Just one...laboriously slow...update. lol

Yeah. They really need to think about that whole "download via our launcher..." thing.

Edit: I need this in my life. Wish me luck! (Because I don't have any. lol)

How would I try it without DSL? Obviously other than cable internet. The cable company that services my area, measures data usage. A 150 GB download, would eat up almost half, if not half, of what I'd be allowed in a month. That is, if there are no issues downloading it. I had to download GTA 5 twice, just to get it to install correctly, ;because of the piss poor job at packing the files, that Rockstar does.

As I mentioned before, they're the only developer that I've had issues with, for games that are 60+ GB in size. Every other game I have, has had absolutely no issues with the downloads finishing, and finishing correctly.

Ahh, okay. I had my cellphone set up as a wifi hotspot a few months ago, when I was starting all over again, after replacing my hard drive. With World of Warcraft being 65+ GB and GTA 5 being about 85 GB, I gave it a shot, since the internet on my phone, is lots faster. I wound up finding out that I don't have unlimited data as a wifi hotspot on the phone. lol

I eventually got a message saying that I ran out of data, and they were slowing the speed down for it being a wifi hotspot, but regular data speeds were going to be unaffected.

Gotta love those limited unlimited data plans. They shouldn't be able to advertise them as "unlimited" then throttle the hell out of them, but of course, they do and no one bats an eyelash.

Interesting, though, that -- even if you've used up your allotment for the month -- you can still stream video from one of the major streaming services without the speed being throttled.

Hmmmm.

Net Neutrality doesn't exist.

As I said, the data was only throttled as a hotspot. It didn't affect how fast my phone itself could retrieve data.

With that, I'd switch the connection my pc had, back to my dsl router, and use the wifi hotspot on the phone, to connect my roku to the phone, and watch streaming services that I wanted to watch, as those huge downloads ate up my bandwidth, causeing any streaming, to constantly bounce in and out of buffering.

I just with that my isp had faster internet available in my area, like they do in the more populated areas. As I mentioned before, I don't want to go with the cable internet, as they limit data per month and charge for going over. My dsl is unlimited data. When I look at it being unlimited data, it's slightly easier to live with, since I can't afford overage charges for going over a data limit, or paying for a much more expensive plan, that would get more data, with the same kind of thing, if I were to manage to go over that higher limit.

Yeah. 'Course, I'm still talking about mobile. Wish I did still have DSL, as horrible as Windstream was. But, I don't. So I have to make do. smile.gif

If your only option it using your cellphone as a mobile hotspot for your computer to get online, it explains why you're not doing really anything for online game playing on the pc.

Is there ANY options where you're at, for home internet? Or is is just through your smartphone?
